Jaya Bachchan is known for her outspoken opinions whether on the film industry paparazzi or politics. She said that the concept of marriage is outdated these days. Jaya also suggested that her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda who will turn 28 in a week should not get married. She further stated that todays young women know how to raise children effectively and that children are becoming smarter than ever before.

At the We The Women event Jaya Bachchan said that she feels marriage is an outdated concept and wouldnt want her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda to get married. When asked about the legality of marriage Jaya Bachchan casually offered an encouraging line Just enjoy life. She was asked if the actress would mind if Navya Nanda followed in her footsteps and gave up her career after marriage. Jaya Bachchan replied I dont want Navya to get married.

When the host asked why marriage is an outdated institution actress Jaya claimed during an interview with We The Women that todays kids can outdo anyone. For them marriage is like a sweet dish. Speaking of marriage Bachchan explained it by comparing it to Delhis laddus. If you eat them youll get into trouble but if you dont youll immediately regret it.

Navya is the niece of actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. Her brother Agastya Nanda made his acting debut last year with The Archies. Her father Nikhil Nanda is a Delhi-based industrialist. Actors Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor are her cousins through her mother Ritu Nanda. Navya Naveli Nanda graduated from Fordham University in New York in 2020. That same year she co-founded Aara Health a health-tech platform. She is pursuing a blended MBA program from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
