Ranchi: In the first ODI match between India and South Africa held in Ranchi, the Indian team performed excellently and achieved a thrilling victory. Due to Virat Kohli’s brilliant century and impressive performance by the bowlers, India won by 17 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.


India set a huge target of 350 runs


The Indian team, which came to bat first after losing the toss, did not have a very good start. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was out in the fourth over on the score of only 18 runs. However, after this, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli handled the innings firmly and stopped the fall of wickets.


Both the experienced batsmen batted aggressively and contributed half-centuries and made an important partnership of 136 runs. Rohit Sharma scored 57 runs (5 fours, 3 sixes), but after his dismissal, Virat Kohli continued his aggressive game.


Kohli scored a century in 102 balls and played an excellent inning of 135 runs, which included 11 fours and 7 sixes. KL Rahul also made an important contribution of 60 runs in the middle order. Team India set a big target for South Africa by scoring 350 runs in the stipulated 50 overs.


Strong start for Indian bowling


The South African team, which came to chase the target, suffered setbacks in the beginning. In the second over, Harshit Rana gave a big blow to the visiting team by taking two wickets in one over, where Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock quickly returned to the pavilion.


After this, Markram was also out on the ball of Arshdeep Singh. After the initial setbacks, Georgie and Matthew tried to control the innings for some time, but in the 15th over, Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing Georgie.


Jansen and Britzke increased India’s concern


Brewis contributed 37 runs in the middle order, while Jansen and Britzke made a strong partnership of 97 runs to make the match exciting. Jansen scored 70 runs in 39 balls, which included 8 fours and 3 sixes, while Britzke played a patient inning of 72 runs. But Kuldeep Yadav made India’s comeback by dismissing first Jansen and then Britzke in the 33rd over. Kuldeep took a total of 4 wickets in this match.


Match overturned in the last over


Arshdeep turned the match towards India by dismissing Berger in the 47th over. South Africa needed 18 runs in the final over, but Prasidh Krishna dismissed Boss to restrict the visitors to 332. Among Indian bowlers, Kuldeep took 4 wickets, Harshit Rana took 3 wickets, Arshdeep took 2 wickets and Prasidh Krishna took 1 wicket.
