Millions of people are heading off on holiday this Christmas. If you're one of them, and you've got your festive holiday all planned, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.

Experts at Tiger.co.uk have revealed some essential checks all Brits must do before heading overseas. As passport rules have changed for Brits over the last few years, if it's your first holiday in a while, it's worth double-checking your passport is still valid and that you have everything you need. If you're heading on a winter escape to Europe, there is one key check to make.

In order for it to be valid, your passport needs to have been issued less than ten years before your date of entry and have another three months of validity after your planned departure from the EU.

It's also important to check that your passport is still in good condition. Any damage to the cover, pages or chip could see you turned away at the border.

If you're bringing the whole family with you, double-check your children's passports too, as these are only valid for five years rather than ten.

If you're an avid traveller and your passport is filled with stamps, then make sure you have at least two blank pages - otherwise you could be turned away.

Ian Wilson, managing director at Tiger.co.uk said: "We urge holidaymakers to carry out essential passport checks now to avoid last-minute hassle and potentially being turned away at the airport.

"Post-Brexit travel changes are still confusing for many of us, so it's important for Brits to familiarise themselves with the validity requirements before jetting off to Europe.

"If you're denied access to your flight for issues such as an invalid passport, your travel insurance is unlikely to protect you. That's why it's so important to double-check these things well in advance of your departure date."
