National Pollution Control Day 2025: National Pollution Control Day is celebrated every year on 2 December in India. The objective behind this is to make people aware of the increasing danger of pollution and its health effects. This day reminds us how important clean air, clean water and clean environment are for us. Growing industries, vehicle smoke, mismanagement of waste and chemical emissions have serious effects on the environment as well as our body.


Pollution Control Day is celebrated in memory of the Bhopal gas tragedy that occurred on 2 December 1984. During that time thousands of people lost their lives due to poisonous gas. This day is celebrated so that people can be made aware of the danger of pollution.


What is the history of the tragic accident?


In Madhya Pradesh, on the night of 2 and 3 December 1984, there was a leakage of methyl isocyanate gas in the Union Carbide factory in Bhopal city. Due to this poisonous gas, thousands of people lost their lives and many people became victims of physical and mental disability. This tragedy made not only the country but the world realize the importance of industrial safety and pollution control.



That is why this day draws people’s attention to the dangers posed by environmental pollution and inspires them to find solutions. Rapid urbanization, industrialization, population growth etc. are making pollution serious. Due to which the problem of air, water, land and noise pollution is affecting the balance of nature.

  • Minimize energy use by saving electricity.

  • Water pollution can be reduced by not misusing water.
