Patna: In view of the increasing traffic in Patna and widespread encroachment in public places, the district administration has once again adopted a strict stance. District Magistrate Dr. Thyagarajan S. On the instructions of M., a special campaign against encroachment will be conducted in the entire city from Monday. The administration believes that eradication of encroachment is extremely important to keep the main roads of the city free from obstructions and safe.


The calendar for the month of December has been released for this campaign. Continuous action will be taken in different areas of the city through nine special teams formed by District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma. This special drive will not only run in the six zones of the Municipal Corporation, Nutan Rajdhani, Patliputra, Kankarbagh, Bankipur, Azimabad and Patna City, but will also be effectively implemented in Khagaul, Phulwarisharif and Danapur Municipal Council areas.


Joint teams from different departments will be involved


Officers and personnel of Administration, Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police, Transport, Revenue, Road Construction, Health, Police, Fire Service, Bridge Construction Corporation, Telecommunication, Forest Division and Electricity Department will jointly take action in the campaign. The District Magistrate has clearly said that wherever encroachment is being removed, an FIR will be filed compulsorily if encroachment is found again. He also directed that strict legal action will be taken against those who obstruct the campaign.


Emphasis on keeping main roads encroachment free


DM said that it is extremely important to keep public places, footpaths, service roads and major roads encroachment free. Major routes including Kankarbagh, Gandhi Maidan, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Dak Bungalow, Kargil Chowk, Ashok Rajpath, Boring Canal Road, Saguna Mod, JP Ganga Path and Atal Path have been specially marked. The Urban Management Unit has been instructed to conduct regular campaigns every month as per the pre-determined calendar.


Strict action against habitual encroachers


Sub-division officials and sub-division police officers have been instructed to intensify anti-encroachment action, identify habitual encroachers and take strict action and conduct special vehicle checking drives.


Penalty for temporary and permanent encroachment


The DM said that any kind of unauthorized vending, illegal parking or commercial activity will not be tolerated on the main roads. Municipal bodies have been given the power to impose a penalty of Rs 5,000 on temporary encroachment and Rs 20,000 on permanent encroachment.


Special cleanliness and arrangement around hospitals


Instructions have also been given to completely remove encroachments around IGIMS, PMCH, AIIMS and NMCH, so that there is no hindrance in the movement of patients and ambulances. For effective monitoring of the campaign, a five-member special cell has been formed, which includes Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Additional District Magistrate (City Order), SP (Security), Additional Municipal Commissioner and City Magistrate.

The DM said that in the face of increasing vehicles and traffic jams, smooth traffic management is the top priority. Removing encroachments will improve the traffic system and accidents will also reduce. This special campaign will run till December 31 and will be reviewed daily. Works like escalator-equipped FOBs, underpasses, road widening, beautification and alternative arrangements for vendors are continuing on various routes, so that better facilities can be provided to the general public.
