New Delhi: Due to the remnants of cyclone ‘Michaung’, there is continuous heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, due to which normal life has been disrupted in many areas. Due to continuous rains, holiday has been declared in all schools and colleges in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts on Tuesday. The semester examinations to be held by Madras University and Anna University on Tuesday have been postponed.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a deep depression has been stationary for several hours about 50 km east of Chennai. This system will weaken into a depression in the next 12 hours and is expected to move about 30 km away from the city. However, due to its proximity, the intensity of rainfall will continue in North Tamil Nadu. Due to rain in Chennai since morning, main roads and continuous areas are waterlogged. Main roads are clogged with traffic making it difficult to pass through the areas. Officials have requested people to avoid non-essential travel and stay at home. The Meteorological Department has indicated that rains will continue in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from Wednesday till December 5, in which there is a possibility of thunderstorm and lightning in some areas.
