National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Reliance Jio have jointly developed a unique safety system that will send safety alerts to passengers’ mobile while traveling. This step is important towards further strengthening road safety.
Through Jio’s 4G and 5G networks, the driver will receive advance information about foggy areas, accident sites, areas with stray animals and route changes. Alerts will be sent to passengers through SMS, WhatsApp and high priority calls to ensure safe travel.
A major feature of this security system is that its implementation will not require any new equipment. This system will work completely automatically through the existing telecom towers. This means that wherever Jio network is available, security messages will automatically activate.
According to NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav, this project is an important step towards providing timely information to passengers. Jio Chairman Jyotindra Thakkar also expressed confidence that with the power of Jio network, the system will reach millions of people faster, and will make travel safer.
This project will initially be used as a pilot project on some specific highways. Later there are plans to implement it on all the highways of India. The system will also be integrated with the Highway Yatra App and helpline 1033, providing passengers with an integrated safety experience.
The performance of this system will now be tested during a pilot project, which will provide accurate data about its effectiveness and contribution to travel safety.
This security system will first be implemented on some selected highways and in future it will be expanded to the entire country. Price information has not been given yet.
