PTC Web Desk: Malaysia’s transport ministry has confirmed that the deep-water hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will resume on December 30, reviving long-awaited hopes for answers more than a decade after the aircraft vanished.

The renewed effort will be carried out by Ocean Infinity, a US-based marine robotics firm that has earlier assisted in the search. The company will undertake intermittent deep-sea operations over a 55-day window, focusing on zones in the southern Indian Ocean that experts consider most likely to hold the wreckage.

In a statement, the ministry said the decision underlines the government’s ongoing resolve “to bring closure to the families affected by this unimaginable tragedy.”

Earlier this year, Malaysia agreed to a “no-find, no-fee” arrangement, allowing Ocean Infinity to explore a fresh 15,000-square-kilometre area of the seabed. Under the terms of the contract, the company will only be compensated, an estimated $70 million, if it successfully discovers the aircraft. The earlier search attempt was suspended in April after severe weather disrupted operations.

Flight MH370, a Boeing 777 carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Investigators later concluded through satellite signals that the plane diverted from its route and likely ended its journey in a remote part of the Indian Ocean.

Despite extensive multinational search efforts, the aircraft’s main wreckage has never been found. Only scattered debris believed to be from MH370 has surfaced over the years on beaches along East Africa and Indian Ocean islands. Ocean Infinity’s earlier private mission in 2018 also ended without conclusive results.
