Punjab News: The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has launched an amazing ‘education revolution’ in the government schools of the state. Its direct benefit is visible in the form of a good future for the children. The Mann government has adopted Finland’s famous ‘Happiness-First’ education model, abandoning the old and difficult method of rote learning. The aim of this model is to save the childhood of children and make them happy people. Sending hardworking teachers from government schools directly to Finland for training shows that the government wants to make the standard of education at par with the world. This is not just a visit, but we have full faith in government schools. So far, more than 200 primary teachers have been sent to the University of Turku in Finland for 15 days of special training. This initiative is a far cry from the false promises of previous governments—this is a guarantee of work! The first batch was dispatched on 18 October 2024, the second on 15 March 2025 and the third on 15 November 2025.

Smiling children are the guarantee of a better future, and that is why teachers have completely changed the classroom environment after returning from Finland. Now government schools are no longer just a place to read books, but have become centers of happiness, new thinking and practical knowledge. This new policy of short breaks, big changes, increased concentration is now being adopted in government schools, because teachers like head teacher Luvjeet Singh Grewal have learned the biggest lesson from Finland that “children should get a chance to breathe, play and refresh themselves.” That is why, now children are given a short break after every two periods. This small change has worked wonders: Children now return to study with more attention, better concentration and energy. We are reducing the burden of children’s childhood! From Classroom to Farm: Understanding the power of practical knowledge, education is no longer limited to four walls. To connect the children with the soil and their farming roots, they were taken to the paddy fields, where they saw how transplantation was done. E.V.S. (Environmental Studies, EVS) The students were taken on a tour of flood-affected areas to understand for themselves how cutting of trees causes floods—areas with fewer trees were more affected. This learning experience was much better than books. Along with this, taking inspiration from Finland, essential life skills are now being taught in schools, where boys will learn jobs like sewing and girls welding, breaking the old thinking, because everyone there learns these skills.

Involvement of mothers: To create a nexus between home and school, in Kapuri village, Patiala, head teacher Jagjit Walia has started ‘Mom Workshops’. Here mothers (most of whom do domestic work and left school after marriage) join the children in activities like solving puzzles and coloring. This is increasing the connection between parents and school. We are connecting the entire family with education! Stress-free learning! Absenteeism has reduced because teachers have now started focusing on coloring, making clay models and making learning easier, rather than on filling notebooks. Cluster head teacher Kavinder Kumar says that Finland taught him that comfort and happiness increases children’s attendance and mornings become pleasant. That’s why a ‘student’ made of balloons named ‘Jumbo’ was created on Children’s Day (14 November) to please the new children so that they get excited about coming to school. According to teacher Jaspreet Singh, in Finland, child care centers are attached to schools, where children have a short nap time and there are only 20 students per teacher. This approach is based on love, flexibility and constant encouragement.

Institutional changes: Ensuring the strong foundation of the education revolution and the long-term vision of the government, Education Secretary Anindita Mitra has assured that the government is working on a strong plan to ensure these positive changes. From January 2026, teachers who have returned from Finland will start training the rest of their colleagues on a specific schedule, spreading the model across the state. Apart from this, work is also underway on a plan to share study material and exchange new information with Finland. The work of setting up psychometric labs in schools to know the strengths of every child is also going on. Due to the foresight of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the government schools of Punjab are now leading in education. This is not just about improving education, but a true investment in the future of children, which will lead to the progress of Punjab tomorrow.
