News India Live, Digital Desk: Wins and losses keep on happening on the cricket field, but sometimes the matter comes down to ‘ego’ and ‘self-respect’. Nowadays a video is going viral on social media. It is being claimed that after the end of the match, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma avoided shaking hands with South Africa’s head coach Shukri Conrad. What is seen in the video has sparked a debate among the fans. Did this happen unknowingly or did Team India deliberately express its anger by hitting ‘ignore’ the coach? Come, let’s decode this entire matter. Why is there so much ruckus? (Flashback to ‘Grovel’ Remark)The roots of this entire drama are hidden in an old statement. If you remember, during the series, South African coach Shukri Conrad had given a very sharp statement. He had said that he wanted to make the Indian team “Grovel” (i.e. forced to kneel / beg). The word ‘Grovel’ is considered very derogatory in the history of cricket (Tony Greig used it for West Indies in 1976, due to which he had to suffer the consequences). This statement of Shukri had greatly angered the Indian fans and former legends (like Gavaskar sir). It was believed that Team India might not have said anything verbally, but this thing had pierced the heart. What was seen in the video? Now let’s come to the latest viral video. After the end of the match, when both the teams were standing in line and shaking hands with each other (Handshake Ceremony), then the camera captured something which shocked everyone. It is clearly seen in the video that Virat Kohli moves forward while shaking hands with the South African players. But as soon as coach Shukri Conrad’s turn comes, Kohli’s attention is probably somewhere else or he deliberately ‘skips’ her and moves ahead. His face was flat and there was no eye-contact. On the other hand, captain Rohit Sharma’s case is a bit complicated. From some angles it seems that he did not shake hands, while some reports are claiming that Rohit did shake hands but very reluctantly or to complete the formality. There was no smile on his face which is usually seen. What is the truth? (Fans vs Facts)Social media is divided into two groups. Indian fans are calling it “Cold Revenge”. He says, “Tit for tat! If you talk about ‘kneeling’ our team, we will not give you that respect.” However, till now neither Kohli nor Rohit has made any official statement on this. Many times it happens that someone is accidentally left behind in the crowd. But looking at the background of ‘Grovel”s statement, fans are not ready to believe that it was just a coincidence.
