News India Live, Digital Desk: Whenever we go somewhere and book a hotel, one thing often spoils our mood. That is the check-in and check-out time of the hotel. Whether you arrive at 8 in the morning or 10 at night, the hotel staff often tells you, “Sir/Madam, check-out time will be 12 noon tomorrow.”
Many times we feel that we have paid the full amount, so why are we getting less time? Is this the arbitrariness of the hotel owners? The answer is no. There is a very practical reason and logic hidden behind this. Let us understand in simple language.
The biggest reason is the ‘time gap’ of cleaning.
Imagine, if you are staying in a room and you leave the room at 2 pm. At the same time, there is a new guest standing at the reception who wants the same room. Can the hotel owner give him the keys without changing the sheets and cleaning? no way.
The check-out time of 12 noon is kept so that the hotel staff (housekeeping) can be accommodated in between. ‘Buffer Time’ of 2 to 3 hours So to receive. Check-in time is usually kept at 1 pm or 2 pm. Between 12 and 2 pm, the staff deep-cleans the rooms, changes bedsheets, sanitizes the toilet and prepares it for the next guest.
‘Standard Time’ around the world
This rule applies not only in India but all over the world. The time of 12 o’clock is exactly the middle of the day. It has become a global standard. The advantage of this is that if someone is coming from London to Delhi, or from Mumbai to New York, it becomes easier to manage the flights and travel schedule. Everyone knows that the ‘day’ of the hotel changes at 12 o’clock.
business mathematics
Hotel industry is also a business. They want their room not to remain empty. The 12 o’clock rule helps them manage their inventory (room availability). If there are no rules, then someone will leave at 6 in the morning and someone at 6 in the evening, which will disrupt the entire system and newly arrived guests will have to wait in the lobby for hours.
Is there any solution to this?
Nowadays many hotels are becoming flexible. If the room is vacant, they may give you ‘Early Check-in’ or ‘Late Check-out’ facility, but for this you have to politely talk to the reception or sometimes you may have to pay extra charge.
