Let's be honest, the UK's winter weather rarely gives us much sunshine, nor do we get those winter wonderland scenes that are the stuff of postcards. It's therefore not surprising that thousands of Brits start to seek sunnier climates - and the good news is that it just got easier to visit not one but TWO destinations with year-round sunshine.

Egypt has long been a firm favourite with sunseekers thanks to its balmy temperatures averaging 24-27C during the winter, with ideal conditions for lounging on its golden sandy beaches or poolside at any of its countless all-inclusive resorts.

Throw in the average flight time of around 5-6 hours, and while it's not on the doorstep it's a lot closer than other winter sun hotspots like the Caribbean islands or Mexico.

Plenty of holiday giants from easyJet to TUI already offer flights and packages to Egypt, but Jet2 is entering the fold with a host of new flights and packages for UK holidaymakers.

The travel firm is launching new flights to two Egyptian hotspots; Hurghada and Sharm-El-Sheikh, both with routes from six UK airports (Birmingham, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted and Manchester). The new flights take off from February 2027 (dates can vary depending on the airport you fly from), so it's perfect timing for nabbing some of that all-important winter sun. The best part is that to celebrate, the company is offering up to £100 off holidays.

For those who prefer a beach holiday, it's worth having Sharm-El-Sheikh on your radar. It boasts some ridiculously beautiful beaches with soft, golden sands and crystal-clear sea waters that are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, not to mention the plethora of hotels and all-inclusive resorts on offer, with plenty of different options depending on your budget.

Between January to March it has average temperatures of 24-27C, so it's warm enough to make the most of the beaches in the day, and still be able to enjoy a sunset cocktail or dinner on a terrace in the evening. (Just pack a couple of layers as sometimes it is still jacket weather once the sun goes down).

For those who like a bit of beach but also want an itinerary, Hurghada might be more tempting. It still has those gorgeous beaches as well as turquoise waters for swimming, diving and boat trips, but you'll also find attractions such as the Makadi Water World water park with heaps of slides. If you're after a day trip, you can find plenty of tours and excursions to Luxor (about a four-hour drive away) where you'll find the ruins and tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Karnak Temple. Book on a tour with an Egyptologist if you're looking to learn more about the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt!

If you're looking for more winter sun inspiration, it's not just Egypt where you'll find gorgeous beaches, warm weather and plenty to explore. Cape Verde is another destination where you don't need to commit to a full long-haul journey, and the islands have incredible beaches, watersports and 25C weather during the winter months.

If a longer flight doesn't fully put you off, then Sri Lanka is an underrated gem. In fact, its palm-fringed golden beaches and ecletic mix of wildlife have seen it dubbed the 'most magical place ever' for a getaway. Although it's no hidden hotspot, according to research it's been enjoying a surge of popularity in recent years. A study from Travel Republic found a 72% surge of demand for holidays to the South Asian country in November alone.
