Japan is a dream destination for many travelers. Its spotless streets, vibrant nightlife, and cutting-edge technology make it unlike any other country. Japan’s food culture is another major attraction—sushi, ramen, tempura, mochi, and countless other dishes have fans across the world, including in India. Recently, Sara Tendulkar, daughter of Sachin Tendulkar, visited Japan and sampled a variety of popular Japanese dishes.

She shared photos of her meals on Instagram, and they’re enough to make anyone crave Japanese cuisine. But you don’t have to fly to Japan to enjoy these flavors—you can find authentic Japanese dishes right here in Delhi. Let’s take a look at the foods Sara tried and where you can experience them in the capital.

Soba noodles with tempura
One of the dishes Sara posted is soba noodles served with fried chicken. Soba noodles, made from buckwheat flour, are a staple in Japan and known for being both healthy and flavorful. They can be prepared in many different styles. Tempura, a lightly battered and deep-fried dish, is often served on the side with a slice of lemon for added freshness.

Yatama Kabocha dessert
Sara also tasted Yatama Kabocha, a traditional Japanese sweet dish. It is made using sweet pumpkin and steamed gobo (a type of root vegetable similar to carrot). This dessert is served in various styles and is eaten with chopsticks. Its mild sweetness makes it a favorite among many.

Sushi rolls
Sara didn’t miss out on Japan’s most iconic dish—sushi. Prepared using rice, nori sheets, raw fish, and vegetables, sushi has become widely available across India. Many restaurants and cafes in Delhi now serve quality sushi for those who want to experience authentic Japanese flavors.

Dobin Mushii soup
Dobin Mushii is a traditional Japanese soup prepared by steaming ingredients in a clay pot. It typically contains fish, chicken, shrimp, mushrooms, and seasonings. The soup has a tangy, mildly spicy flavor, often enhanced with a few drops of lemon juice.

Where to try Japanese food in Delhi
Japanese cuisine has grown incredibly popular in India, especially among young food lovers. If you want to try these dishes in Delhi, several places offer authentic Japanese meals. Majnu Ka Tila is a great starting point—its Sumo Restaurant is known for its Japanese offerings. You can also visit Mount Fuji restaurant in Connaught Place. Another reliable choice is Sakura Asian Kitchen.
