However, how much truth is there?

At the beginning of November 2025, the Central Government has constituted the 8th Pay Commission and given the green light to its ‘Terms of Reference’ (TOR). This TOR will serve as the main guideline for formulating recommendations. Now many employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for the Pay Commission report to be submitted and approval from the government.

When can 8th pay commission be implemented?

Based on past trends, once the government creates a pay commission or initiates the process, implementation generally takes 1 to 2 years. As per the current timing, the Eighth Pay Commission recommendations are expected to be implemented before 2027.

Eighth Pay Commission has 18 months to submit its report. Once submitted, a group of ministers will study it and then send it to the Cabinet for final approval. This may take a month. If the eighth CPC also needs an extension, implementation may take about two years.

What has happened so far?

In India, pay commissions are set up every ten years and implementation takes about 2-3 years. For example, the 7th CPC was established in 2014 and took 29 months to implement in 2016. Similarly, implementation of the Sixth CPC took 22 months.

Eighth Pay Commission is 18 months away and we can assume that it may take another 6 months to implement its recommendations. However, timely implementation also depends on how various employee unions continue to pressurize the government.
