Holidaymakers are often on the lookout for new ways to make their packing and travel easier, with numerous methods surfacing on the internet. From rolling clothes to maximise space in the suitcase to securing that preferred seat on the plane, there's one that has often been overlooked, and it could be a game-changer.

We're all familiar with the clear plastic bags at airport security for storing our 100ml liquids before a flight, while many of us have opted to pack our products ahead of time in a sandwich bag we've found at home. Not only does this save time at the airport, but the small plastic lock zip bag can also be put to good use during any trip.

The simple household item, which can cost less than 20p each or £9 for a bag of 50, can be used in a variety of nifty ways, and there are some you might not have heard of. In a bid to help fellow travellers, one holidaymaker took to Reddit to reveal just how handful these bags really are and why they should be added to your packing list.

In a post sharing travel hacks, the holidaymaker advised: "Stash a few different-sized ziplocks in your suitcase. Dirty hotel remotes? Stick it in a ziplock. Soiled clothes and no way to wash? Keeps them separated and smells contained.

"Shells from the beach. Trash bag. Snack holder. Purse organiser. Barf bag. Ice pack. Coin holder. Leak prevention for liquids. Keep a change of clothes rolled up tight in your backpack. Keeps sand off an e-reader at the beach. Endless possibilities."

To save yourself from buying the bags, and if you don't have any in the cupboard at home, you could even grab an extra handful at the airport for free. One traveller shared: "I always grab a couple of the clear zip closure bags from airport security. I use them to cover the hotel TV remote."

Another holidaymaker also suggested using large lock zip bags to store dirty laundry in your suitcase during the trip, in addition to items that might have gotten wet. While another agreed and remarked: "I always take about 4-5 ziplock bags of different sizes. Ideal for packing snacks while on the go, or storing something wet."

Sharing just how they take advantage of the varying-sized bags, one traveller revealed: "Zip locks are less bulky than packing cubes I've experimented with. These have changed the game for me with how disorganised I usually am with my carry-on, typically a modest-sized backpack."

Explaining their method, they said: "Freezer-size ones: to put used underwear and socks you change out of mid journey (either a long trip or a long layover). This seals in the aroma.

"Smaller size ones: for your electric cables, chargers, etc. Other assorted sizes for your medication (please don't put prescription medicine in your checked baggage... Just don't), or for liquids for security."

So, next time you're packing your suitcase, pop some of the nifty bags in - you never know when they might come in handy. Particularly if you spot that dirty remote control in your hotel room.
