Monty Don has been inundated with support from his fans after sharing a moving tribute to his dog, Nell. The Gardners' World star, who often shares his life updates on Instagram, shared an adorable photo of his dog, Ned, with Nell, whom he lost in 2023.
The BBC star simply captioned the snap, "This day 3 years ago." Monty was inundated with messages of support from his followers, with many sharing stories of their own losses.
One fan penned, "We all miss Nellie so much."
Another commented, "My goodness, always so joyful but always so hard, Sir Monty...I lost my fur baby of 18 years and the pain is like a huge hole...we know it heals but it takes so much time...I'm still mourning Nigel..."
A third added, "Monty, thank you for showing us all such beautiful memories. Nigel and Nellie are together watching over you and Ned and little Patti, rest in great happiness Nigel & Nell."
Another follower went on, "Such gorgeous faces, you cannot beat a dog's friendship."
Sharing their own loss, one fan said, "I still greatly miss the four cats I've had in the past. My first cat passed in 2003."
This isn't the first tribute post Monty has shared recently, as he also marked another anniversary.
Sharing a sweet photo of himself snuggled up with Nell, he wrote, "On this day 10 years ago, Nellie came into my life. I still miss her very much."
After being diagnosed with cancer in June 2023, Nellie died peacefully in October 2023 and was buried next to Monty's other dog, Nigel, in their garden at Longmeadow.
In a BBC Radio 5 Live interview at the time, Monty said he wrapped Nell in one of his own jackets, along with her favourite biscuits, and buried her.
"There's now a space where her bed was," Monty emotionally said. "And the fact, she would come when I was eating and press her head against my knee.
"She used to have a particular bark when she was excited about food."
