Akhuratha Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Katha

According to the mythological story of Akhurath Sankashti Chaturthi, once the mighty Ravana had conquered all the gods of heaven. Then when he came to know about Bali's immense powers, he went to capture Bali. During the evening he also caught hold of Bali from behind. But the monkey king Bali was many times more powerful than Ravana, he pressed Ravana under his arm and brought him to Kishkindha.

After this, King Bali gave his son Angad to Ravana to play with like a toy. Angad also considered Ravana to be a toy and started tying him with a rope and moving him here and there, due to which Ravana suffered a lot. Saddened by this, Ravana remembered his father Rishi Pulastya ji. When sage Pulastya came to know about this condition of Ravana, he was very sad to see it and he found out how Ravana got into this condition.

Sage Pulastya had realized that gods, humans and demons all behave in the same way when they are proud. But still he was infatuated with his son and asked Ravana, how did you remember me? Ravana said, O grandfather, I am very sad because everyone here curses me. In such a situation, please protect me and free me from this pain. Ravana's father said, O son, don't worry, soon you will be free from this bondage.

Sage Pulastya advised Ravana to observe the fast of Lord Ganesha on the Chaturthi of Paush Krishna Paksha and told that in ancient times, Indradev had also observed this fast to get freedom from the murder of Vritrasura. This fast is very fruitful and by observing it regularly, all your problems can be solved. As per his father's instructions, Ravana observed a fast on Akhurath Sankashti Chaturthi, due to which he got freedom from the bondage of Bali.
