8th Pay Commission Latest Update: Crores of central government employees and pensioners have been waiting for the 8th Pay Commission for a long time. Now a new information has come to light regarding this. During the winter session of Parliament, the Central Government told the Lok Sabha on Monday that at present a total of 50.14 lakh central employees are working in the country, while there are about 69 lakh pensioners, who will get the benefit of the implementation of the 8th Central Pay Commission.


Union State Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary has given a written reply regarding this matter in the Lok Sabha. The MPs had asked many questions regarding the date of implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, Terms of Reference (ToR), fund allocation in the budget and the government’s preparedness on the complaints of employees and pensioners. The minister made it clear that the 8th Pay Commission will give its recommendations within 18 months of its formation, while the date of implementation will be decided by the government.


Will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented from January 1, 2026?


Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, while giving a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday, December 8, 2025, said that at present it is not decided whether the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented from January 1, 2026 or not. In recent times, there was speculation on social media and among employee organizations that the new pay commission will be implemented from the beginning of 2026, but the government put an end to these speculations. According to the minister, the Commission may take up to 18 months from the date of notification (November 3, 2025) to submit its report, only after which further decisions will be taken.


Lok Sabha MPs had asked questions to the government


Lok Sabha MP N.K. Premachandran, Thanga Tamilselvan and Dharmendra Yadav had asked many important questions to the government. These included the date of implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, the status of the Terms of Reference (ToR), the provision of funds for it in the Budget 2026-27, and the government’s response to the problems of employees-pensioners. Apart from this, it was also asked whether the Commission is consulting employee unions, pensioners’ associations and state governments before making its final suggestions. On all these questions, the government clarified that the commission has been formed and its work is continuing.



The government said that 8th pay commission The terms of reference have already been notified on 3 November 2025. According to the minister, 50.14 lakh people in the country central employee And there are about 69 lakh pensioners who will get direct benefits of the recommendations of this commission. The government also said that the Center will arrange appropriate funds to implement the accepted recommendations of the 8th CPC. Also, the Commission will decide its own process and methodology for preparing its suggestions, that is, the Commission will prepare the complete blueprint for changes in salary, allowances and pension.
