According to ZnewsChou’s trainer, known as Hulk, recently revealed that he has witnessed the singer endure intense episodes of pain caused by the disease, sometimes relying on others for support. Chou has committed to regular physical activity in recent years to help manage his condition.
Ankylosing spondylitis, according to the Cleveland Clinic, is a type of arthritis that primarily affects the joints in the spine, often starting in the sacroiliac joints where the spine meets the pelvis. It typically causes pain and stiffness, but in some cases, can also lead to digestive issues, skin rashes, and unintended weight loss.
Hulk also shared how he first met Chou through a mutual artist introduction, eventually becoming the singer’s personal coach. He praised Chou for his kindness and generosity, recalling that the singer often goes out of his way to support those around him. He expressed gratitude for Chou’s guidance and friendship, noting that he was even invited to serve as a groomsman at Chou’s wedding in England in 2015.
At 46, Chou remains one of the most influential singer-songwriters in Taiwan. Over his career, he has released 14 albums, conducted six world tours encompassing more than 300 concerts, and won 15 Golden Melody Awards. He is also the creator of numerous hits, including “Blue and White Porcelain,” “Rice Fragrance,” “Nocturne,” “Hair Like Snow,” “Faraway,” and “East Wind Breaks.”
