It's no secret that Christmas shopping is stressful, but it can be even worse when parcels go missing. Recently, one man was left furious when Royal Mail failed to deliver his parcel, and handed him a totally unlikely item instead. You'll never believe what he found on his doorstep.

David Oliver Jordan opened up about his recent shopping experience online, and he couldn't believe what happened. He ordered a gift ready for Christmas, but he ended up receiving something totally different in the post, and the situation has left him gobsmacked as he's never seen anything quite like it before.

In the video, he alleged the gift he ordered is "missing", but claimed Royal Mail did leave something else in its place. It's not the first time someone's parcel has vanished either.

David said: "Has anybody else had this conundrum? A flat piece of cardboard delivered to my address with this message on the front in a plastic bag from the Royal Mail.

"The number and the website we tried, the phone number we tried for over an hour, eventually got through to someone. They said they would deal with it. Nothing has happened. This was last week."

He added: "We haven't heard anything so yesterday I called the number again. Half an hour I was on the phone listening to their melodic music. Then I decided to give up.

"A flat piece of card. When our postman from the Royal Mail yesterday came to deliver our post, I asked her the question about what do we do if we can't get a hold of anybody or haven't heard from anybody?

"She didn't have a clue, not a clue. 'I don't know, I'm very sorry this has happened, but we have to send whatever's delivered in a plastic bag if it's damaged'. There's nothing in it - it's just an empty piece of card."

David is none the wiser as to where his parcel is, so he's still left with nothing other than a piece of card. This is what he was left with instead of the parcel he ordered, together with an apology note.

In the comments, many suggested he should contact the sender to help remedy the issue. After all, the retailer may be able to help.

What happens if a Royal Mail parcel gets lost?

Royal Mail has been asked to further comment on this story; however, there is some additional guidance on its website. Information states: "If you have used a Royal Mail postage service, please visit the Royal Mail lost postcompensationpage for their policy for lost post.

"To submit a claim via post you'll need to get a P58 form from a branch and send it off to Royal Mail (their address is on the form) along with a photocopy of your proof of purchase. Please wait 15 days after posting before sending a P58."
