A fresh controversy has emerged in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur after posters reading “Babar Urinalaya” began appearing on public toilets. Several Hindu organizations have put up these posters, describing Mughal emperor Babur as a “rapist” and declaring that his name belongs only on a toilet, not on Indian soil.
The groups say their campaign is a direct retaliation to TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, who recently suggested that “Babar Mosques” should be built across the country. His statement has triggered sharp reactions from right-wing groups, who argue that honouring Babur in any form is unacceptable.
According to the protesting organizations, naming any religious structure after Babur deeply offends Hindu sentiments. They clarified that they do not object to the thousands of existing mosques in India, but oppose the construction of any new religious site associated with Babur.
Protesters allege that Babur was “opposed to India’s culture and traditions,” and therefore no mosque or building using his name will be tolerated.
Activists placed posters on public toilets, busy intersections, and several marketplaces with bold messages such as:
“Babar’s place is in a toilet, not in India.”
The groups announced that this protest will continue until MLA Humayun Kabir withdraws his statement.
Hindutva leader Vikas Khare strongly condemned the TMC MLA’s remarks, saying:
“Naming a mosque after Babur is an attack on the sentiments of 100 crore Hindus.
Babur was an enemy of this country, which is why we have put up posters bearing his name on toilets. If such statements continue, situations like December 6, 1992 may arise again.”
Another Hindutva leader, Abhay Srivastava, echoed similar sentiments:
“Humayun Kabir has hurt Hindu sentiments. If he talks about building a mosque in Babur’s name, we are ready for stronger protests.
If required, posters with his name will be burned across India. If he still does not understand, we will go to West Bengal and oppose him everywhere. We will not allow even a single brick with Babur’s name in the country.”
The “Babar Urinalaya” poster controversy has now taken a political turn, intensifying tensions between the groups. Security agencies are monitoring the situation as the protest continues to grow.
