Assam's most popular singer Zubeen Garg died by drowning in the sea on 19 September this year. It is said that he drowned while scuba diving. He was immediately taken to the hospital, although he could not be saved. Since then this case is being investigated. At the same time, if media reports are to be believed, the Special Investigation Team i.e. SIT in the Zubeen case has filed a 3500-page charge sheet related to the case in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Guwahati on Friday.

After almost three months, the Special Investigation Team of Assam Police has filed a charge sheet of more than 3500 pages in the case of the death of singer and composer Zubeen Garg. Sections like murder, conspiracy, culpable homicide have been added to it. Officials said that the 3500 page charge sheet was packed in 4 trunks and brought to the court. The 9-member SIT team reached the court in six vehicles with documents and evidence. If reports are to be believed, the police have so far arrested 7 accused in this case and have also recorded the statements of 300 witnesses. Before the petition was filed, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also requested the people to have faith in the judicial process. He had said- 'SIT will file its charge sheet and the court will investigate it. The guilty will be punished by the court. The work of the police will end and the role of the court will begin. I am confident that the court will definitely provide justice.

About SIT investigation in Zubeen Garg case

SIT chief Special DGP (CID) MP Gupta had earlier confirmed that the investigation was almost complete and all the information would be included in the chargesheet in detail. Gupta said that so far seven people have been arrested and more than 300 witnesses have been questioned. Those arrested in the case include NEIF chief organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma, two of his band members, his cousin and Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg and two PSOs.

When did Zubeen Garg die?

Assam singer Zubeen Garg died while scuba diving in the sea during a yacht party in Singapore on 19 September 2025. On September 21, his mortal remains reached Guwahati, where thousands of fans paid tribute to him. His funeral was performed with full state honors on 23 September. Since then the case is being investigated. Meanwhile, Singapore Police is also investigating this case. In a statement issued on October 17, officials there had said that preliminary investigation did not indicate any foul play. The final report may take three months to prepare and will be submitted to the state coroner after the investigation is completed.
