Hidden in Yorkshire lies a creepy little village that's quickly gained attention for becoming completely abandoned, despite looking almost perfect. The remains of the ancient ghost town village were abandoned between the 11th and 18th centuries. But today, the foundations of more than 30 medieval peasant houses are still visible.

Wharram Percy Deserted Village can be found in the Ryedale District. Visit North Yorkshire says: "The most famous and intensively studied of Britain's 3,000 or so deserted medieval villages, Wharram Percy occupies a remote but attractive site in a beautiful Wolds valley."

It adds that there are substantial ruins of the church and a recreated fishpond, which can be seen by visitors.

The village reached its peak between the 12th and 14th centuries and was abandoned permanently in 1500.

One person who visited Wharram Percy wrote on TripAdvisor: "This lovely deserted medieval village is truly fascinating! The history is incredible, and it was wonderful to wander around and explore. We really lucked out and had beautiful weather, so we got to sit on the grass by the pond and soak it all in."

Another person penned: "Great walk with the dog. Parked in the free car park and walked downhill on the path to a cow field. Crossed over into the fields of Wharram Percy. Lovely walk around and interesting to imagine how it once was all those years ago.

"The walk back was uphill and quite a trek. We really enjoyed it. It's a small historical site, sometimes people expect too much. We loved it. Nice walk out and then to the Stone Trough Inn for lunch."

If you're looking to explore somewhere different, this completely abandonded village could be the perfect place to head to.
