In today’s era, smartphones have become an important part of our lives, but as the usage is increasing, the problem of phone storage filling up quickly is also becoming common. Especially the unnecessary photos, videos and documents received on WhatsApp silently fill the phone’s memory. Many users realize this when the phone starts slowing down or the notification of storage full starts appearing.
According to technical experts, some default settings of WhatsApp are such that they download media files on the phone without asking. The biggest reason for this is group chats, where dozens of photos and videos keep coming every day. If these settings are not taken care of, the phone’s memory can fill up very quickly.
To avoid this problem, first of all it is necessary to change the Media Auto-Download setting in WhatsApp. Users should go to Settings of WhatsApp and open the Storage and Data section. Here, it is better to go to the Media Auto-Download option and choose “Never” or “WiFi Only” for photos, audio, video and documents. Due to this, unnecessary files will not be downloaded automatically.
Apart from this, the Storage Management feature of WhatsApp also proves to be very helpful. Through this option, the user can see which chat or group is taking the most storage. Large videos and repeatedly forwarded files can be deleted in one click, freeing up a lot of space.
Another important setting is Media Visibility. This feature decides whether photos and videos from WhatsApp appear in the phone’s gallery or not. If this is turned off, unnecessary media will not appear in the gallery and the phone will remain more organized. It is especially beneficial to turn off this option for group chats.
Experts also recommend checking the backup of WhatsApp chats from time to time. Old and unnecessary backups take up phone storage unnecessarily. These can be deleted if not needed.
