According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Resources, Kim met with Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE’s Minister of Industry, in Seoul to discuss follow-up measures to the two nations’ November leaders’ meeting in Abu Dhabi, according to Yonhap news agency.

During the meeting, Presidents Lee Jae Myung of Korea and Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates decided to work together on the UAE’s Stargate project, which aims to build cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence in the Middle Eastern country.

According to the ministry, Kim said that Seoul can contribute to the project given its expertise in the semiconductor, data center, engineering, and construction industries.

Noting that the bilateral trade of gas and oil is a fundamental component of economic cooperation between Korea and the United Arab Emirates, the two parties decided to increase their collaboration in the energy sector.

The 13-year-old initiative has helped stabilize the two countries’ energy supply chains, according to the ministry, and the ministers also spoke about increasing the amount of oil that the two countries jointly store.

In the meanwhile, Al Jaber and Climate Minister Kim Sung-hwan met on Thursday to talk about Seoul and Abu Dhabi’s energy cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment, Kim suggested at the meeting that the UAE’s Stargate project use Korea’s low-carbon electric power infrastructure technology, including as power grids and energy storage systems.

In an attempt to assist the international community in reaching its objective of doubling the capacity of renewable energy worldwide by 2030, they also spoke about establishing a cooperative energy conference, according to the ministry.
