Mammootty and his role in ' Kalamkaval ' became a major topic of discussion for the past few days among the cinephiles. Recently in a round table discussion, the ' Kantara ' actress Rukmini Vasanth has shared her opinion about Mammootty's villain character in 'Kalamkaval', in a playful manner.

Dhruv Vikram starts the talk

Actor Dhruv Vikram, who was part of The Hollywood Reporter India’s 2025 Actors Round Table, brought Kalamkaval into the conversation. He shared that the last movie he watched in theatres was Mammootty’s 'Kalamkaval'. Dhruv said he was amazed that a superstar like Mammootty agreed to play such a dark and intense character. According to him, many actors hesitate to take such risks.

Rukmini ’s honest reply

During the discussion, Ishaan Khatter asked Rukmini Vasanth if she now feels confident enough to play negative roles. Earlier, Rukmini had spoken about her fear of playing such characters while discussing Kantara: A Legend – Chapter One. This time, she replied with a smile, “That’s Mammootty sir. I am Rukmini," indirectly praising the legendary actor's capability on breathing life into memorable characters.

Why Mammootty’s role matters

Dhruv Vikram explained how rare it is for a star of Mammootty’s level to take up a serial killer role. He said watching Mammootty make such bold decisions was inspiring.

Kalyani Priyadarshan recalled Mammootty’s belief that writers should not create characters by keeping him in mind. Basil Joseph added an interesting detail, saying Mammootty was not first considered for the serial killer role. In fact, Mammootty himself suggested he could play the negative role, while Vinayakan could be the hero.

On the other hand, as per the Sacnilk website reports, 'Kalamkaval' has collected Rs 34.80 crores from India in 14 days. The movie is also having a decent level of occupancy in theatres.
