New Delhi: Perth Scorchers have smashed the second-highest Big Bash League (BBL) total ever with 257/6 in 20 overs at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 19. New IPL signings Finn Allen and Cooper Connolly have smashed blistering fifties to help the side post a massive target against the Brisbane Heat.

Allen was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the base price of Rs 2 Crore, while all-rounder Connolly was picked by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 3 Crore in the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Melbourne Stars still hold the record of the highest-ever BBL total, scoring 273/2 in 20 overs.

Allen scored 79 runs off 38 balls, smashing three boundaries and eight maximums, while Connolly amassed 77 runs off 37 balls with the help of six boundaries and as many maximums. The duo stitched a 142-run partnership for the second wicket, which helped the Scorchers to cross the 150-run mark after just 12 overs.

Connelly brought up his fifty with a maximum over mid-on in just 27 balls, while Allen looked in fine form in the match, hitting two massive maximums with one-handed follow-throughs. Their stunning knocks led to Perth bringing up its highest-ever score in the 19th over.

Xavier Bartlett picked up two wickets, while Shaheen Afridi, Jack Wildermuth, Liam Haskett, and Matthew Kuhnemann picked up one wicket each. The Scorchers were also saved by poor fielding efforts by the Heat, as they dropped four catches and bowled 14 wides in the innings.

Finn Allen to miss start of T20I series against India

New Zealand batter Finn Allen could miss the start of the upcoming five-match T20I series against India due to the Big Bash League (BBL) commitments, reports ESPNcricinfo. The series will begin on January 21, 2026, in Nagpur.

Allen might not be available until the fourth T20I if Perth Scorchers qualify for the BBL final, which is set to be played on January 25. If they don’t qualify for the BBL finals, then the opener should be available for the full T20I series.
