New Delhi: Young Indian tennis sensation Dhakshineswar Suresh, playing for the Aussie Mavericks Kites at the World Tennis League, shocked singles Grand Slam champion Daniil Medvedev 6-4 in the last set to take his team to Saturday’s summit clash. It was a thrilling moment as the Game Changers Falcons and Aussie Mavericks Kites battled for supremacy fought it hard for supremacy.

The Kites, who had a diluted start to the day being at the bottom of the leaderboard, made a sensational comeback as they beat Falcons 24-19 to take the second position with 58 points in their kitty. In the final, they will be facing AOS Eagles, who thrashed VB Realty Hawks 22-12 to finish at the top of the standings with 65 points in their pocket.

Bopanna bids emotional farewell on home turf

Indian Grand Slam champion Rohan Bopanna was the one to bid an emotional farewell on the home turf as playing for the Falcons, he clubbed with Medvedev for a massive men’s doubles match against Kyrgios and Suresh. In what proved to be a dramatic contest, Medvedev and Bopanna edged to a 7-6 victory.

Meanwhile, in its first season in the country, the World Tennis League has brought together some of the sport’s biggest names to southern city of Bengaluru. But out of all the stars, Indian players Sumit Nagal, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty and Dhakshineswar Suresh stole the show on the third day of the competition in the city.

The World Tennis League is one-of-its mind mixed team tennis tournament which has brought together the best talents in tennis from India and international arena in what is touted to be a unique fast format. After the round-robin stage, where each team face each other in four matches, AOS Eagles and Aussie Mavericks Kites came out on top, setting up the final encounter of WTL’s India debut tomorrow.
