New Delhi: Manchester City’s Erling Haaland netted a brace in a 3-0 win against West Ham United to take his Premier League goal-scoring tally to 104 on Saturday. He surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 103 goals for Manchester United across his two stints with the club.

The Norwegian’s brace helped Manchester City to go to the top of the Premier League table with 37 points after 17 games, but Arsenal later reclaimed the first spot with a 1-0 win over Everton.

Haaland became the fastest player to score 50, then 100, Premier League goals. The Manchester City striker will look to break Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals.

After netting his 100th goal against Fulham at Craven Cottage, Haaland was goalless in City’s 3-0 win against Sunderland. He scored twice against Crystal Palace on Dec. 14 to extend his goal-scoring tally to 102.

His two goals against West Ham brought him to 104 in the competition, breaking Ronaldo’s record of 103 goals. Haaland broke Ronaldo’s goal tally in fewer than half the appearances as he reached the milestone in just 114 outings for Man City, compared to Ronaldo’s 236 appearances.

Kylian Mbappe equals Ronaldo’s record

Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe also equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 59 goals in a single calendar year for the club. The milestone strike came in a 2-0 La Liga victory against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu. Mbappe converted a late penalty on his 27th birthday to help Madrid secure all three points.

“It’s incredible. In my first year, to do it like Cristiano – my idol, the greatest player in Real Madrid history…He’s always been kind to me, spoken very highly of Madrid, and told me how to adapt here,” Mbappe said.

Jude Bellingham netted the opening goal of the match in the 38th minute, but Sevilla tested the hosts and forced many saves before being reduced to ten men. Mbappe missed many chances before finally finding the net from the spot in the 86th minute to help the Los Blancos secure all three points.
