Ever since ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ hit the theatres people have not stopped talking about the film. From conversations about the plot the performances and the music the film has gone beyond its box office collection. Besides this the film is also drawing massive appreciation for Kriti Sanon for the portrayal of her character Mukti. While her performance has won many hearts the audience is sharply divided. Some are labelling her character toxic and a red flag and others are empathising with her emotional complexity. Now breaking the silence on the polarising reactions Kriti has now opened up about the debate surrounding Mukti and the discomfort she faced while reading the script.
Toxic’ And ‘Red Flag’ Labels Spark Debate
Recently speaking about the same Kriti addressed the criticism directed at her character and the growing use of modern labels. Reacting to Mukti being called “toxic” and a “red flag” the actor said “‘Toxic’ and ‘red flag’ these terms have become very common now. It is great that it is being discussed. Debate is a great part of it. At the end a lot of people are feeling like both are right and wrong at some points.”

She further added “Your moral compass is not towards one person which is great because human beings make mistakes. If your heart is not wrong or you’re not an evil person and you made a mistake there’s always a reason why you did what you did. It is a perspective.”
Aanand L. Rai’s Vision Changed Her Approach
Kriti also revealed that her perception of Mukti was quite different from how director Aanand L. Rai envisioned the character. She explained that revisiting scenes with him often left her surprised. “Every time I would go back and talk to Aanand sir about the same scenes same dialogues he would actually visualise it very differently. Like he had her vulnerability her layers empathy everything in his head which wasn’t so much there on the paper.”

The actor admitted that this gap made the process challenging. “And I just felt like oh my God this scene is something else in his head and something else on paper. So it was probably one of the few… I think the only character I didn’t prep for properly.”
‘I Didn’t Like Her’ Admits Kriti
Kriti also made a shocking revelation recalling her first reaction after reading the script. “When I read the script and the way she was written was completely feeling negative.” She went on to share how unsettled she felt. “In January I read the whole script and I called Aanand sir and I said ‘I don’t like her. I’m not liking her.’ And it was giving me anxiety. I was not liking this girl. There’s something very selfish about her.”
Finding Mukti During Filming
Despite her initial hesitation Kriti said the experience eventually helped her discover Mukti organically on set. She described it as the first time she truly found a character while filming and added that she appreciated playing someone imperfect. Kriti also shared that she liked that Mukti was flawed and not written as a perfect individual.
