The Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 season, the premier List-A tournament of Indian domestic cricket, is going to start from December 24. 38 teams will participate in this tournament which will run till January 18 next year. 32 teams have been placed in the Elite Group, while 6 teams are in the Plate Group.
The teams of the Elite Group are divided into 4 different groups. Defending champion Karnataka is in Group A. Jharkhand, who recently became Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy champion, is also in this group. Apart from this, strong teams like Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are also in Group-A.
Last season’s runners-up Vidarbha, Hyderabad, Baroda, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bengal, Assam and Chandigarh have been placed in Group B. Delhi is in Group-D. Veteran batsman Virat Kohli is going to play two VHT matches for Delhi this time. Rohit Sharma will be seen playing for Mumbai. Mumbai is in Group C with strong teams like Punjab and Maharashtra.
Vijay Hazare Trophy was started in 2008. Earlier it was known as Ranji One Day Cup, which was in zonal format. Later it was given the status of national tournament and named after former legendary cricketer Vijay Hazare. Karnataka is the most successful team in the last 17 years of VHT history.
Karnataka has won the title a record 5 times. Tamil Nadu has become champion 3 times. Whereas Saurashtra and Mumbai have won the trophy 2-2 times. Teams from Jharkhand, Bengal, Delhi, Gujarat, Himachal and Haryana have also achieved the distinction of winning the VHT title.
