income tax return
Recently many taxpayers have received messages regarding their filed income tax returns. It states that a refund was claimed for AY 2025-26, but the refund has not been processed yet. The reason for this is that due to some irregularities in the returns, it has been stopped as part of the risk management process.
The IT department has also told that details regarding this have also been sent to your registered email. Let us tell you that such a message does not mean that your refund is stuck, rather the Income Tax Department is giving you an opportunity to file a revised return.
If you have not filed the revised return yet, it is necessary to file it by December 31, 2025. If the return is filed after January 1, 2026, additional tax may have to be paid. Therefore, the safest way is to carefully look at the issues pointed out by the department and submit the revised return on time.
Even if you have already filed a revised return, if you have received such a message, you can ignore that message. But keep in mind, do not click on any link hastily and always use the official website only, so that your refund is safe.
Recently the Income Tax Department has issued a warning regarding cases of cyber fraud. Cyber criminals are now trying to trap people through emails, SMS and fake websites in the name of income tax. Especially senior citizens are becoming targets of such scams. Often these messages are sent on the pretext of tax refund, penalty or KYC update.
People open links or attachments in a hurry and at the same time their personal information and bank details reach the scammers. After this a large amount is withdrawn from their account. That is why now the time has come that we understand how this scam works and what to do to avoid it.
First of all, keep in mind that any work related to income tax should be done only through the official website www.incometax.gov.in. Check the domain name and link before clicking on any email, SMS or website.
Income Tax Department never asks for OTP, password or confidential bank related information through email or call. Therefore, if any such message comes, immediately ignore it and report it. Remember, 'Think Twice, Act Wise' i.e. think twice before clicking on any link or attachment. Inform your friends and family, especially the elders, about this.
