Dec. 23, Mumbai Actress Maanvi Gagroo, who plays Siddhi Patel in the popular television series “Four More Shots Please,” has discussed the necessity for storytellers to be more cautious and responsible for what they depict on screen, particularly when it comes to female characters.

“If we specifically look at how women have been represented on screen, it has reflected a certain mindset for a long time,” Maanvi said in response to an inquiry from IANS on the representation of female-centric characters on screen throughout time.

She pointed out that until recently—and possibly even now—women who drank were portrayed as “bad,” “bigdi hui (spoilt),” or vamp-like characters. Then, a dramatic event would occur in their lives, and they would abruptly transform into the pure, devout, “sudhri hui ladki” (good girl), who abstains from alcohol, dresses in Indian attire, and acts in accordance with social norms.

The actress vehemently expressed her opinion that filmmakers should pay more attention to how they depict their characters, particularly women.

“Life mimics art, and art mimics life; the two are reciprocal. These concepts must evolve along with the reality. This is not to argue that drinking, smoking, or going out is a good thing; in all honesty, it’s up to each individual. It’s up to the individual whether they can manage it. However, as storytellers, we must be more conscious of what we are depicting and promoting, if not accountable for it.

The actress had previously discussed why women are constantly scrutinized for their decisions but males are hardly questioned at all, even when their behavior is irrational, in an interview with IANS.

“I believe that women are constantly judged based on their behavior, whether they smoke, drink, or party. Men aren’t judged for stuff like urinating on the street. Why, therefore, are males not subject to the same standards of evaluation? I mean, they ought to be! Maanvi was asked.

“The obvious disparity in judgment between the sexes is what bothers me. First, let’s put both sexes on an equal footing. Maanvi said, “To be honest, we need to examine if assessing anybody is fair in the first place before even debating whether the judgment is good or wrong.

In reference to Four More Shots Please season 4, the show’s last season was released on December 19. Both audiences and reviewers have been responding well to the series.

In addition to Maanvi Gagroo, the program features Bani J, Kriti Kulhari, and Sayani Gupta. Dino Morea, Prateik Smita Patil, and others.
