New Delhi: An FIR has been registered against the Air India pilot who beat up a passenger till his nose bled at Delhi airport and he has been detained for questioning. The incident came to light after a passenger claimed on social media that his nose was broken in the attack. In connection with this incident, Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Air India Express pilot Captain Virendra Sejwal.
This incident happened on 19 December. Off-duty pilot Virendra Sejwal was traveling with his family when an argument with a co-passenger escalated and he beat him severely. The injured passenger has been identified as Ankit, and the attack left Ankit with a broken nose and bleeding. This has been confirmed in CT scan. Ankit has alleged that the attack took place when he objected to Captain Sejwal not following the line rules and moving forward.
Talking about the incident, Ankit said, "I was assaulted in front of my 7-year-old daughter. I am shocked by this. He assaulted me in front of my daughter, my holidays were ruined. Moreover, that pilot abused me by calling me illiterate." Ankit had also complained on social media that after the incident, he was made to write a letter not to pursue the matter further. After the incident, the Civil Aviation Ministry has also ordered an investigation. After this, Air India Express has suspended Captain Virendra Sejwal from the job till the completion of the investigation and the results.
Safety and Respect: No employee, off-duty employee or other passenger may attack, threaten or abuse anyone at the airport.
Medical and First Aid: It is important to have 24x7 medical facilities at the airport, and immediate help should be available in case of sudden injury.
Right to complain: Passengers can submit a written complaint to CISF, airport authorities or the airline. But it is illegal for the airline or airport staff to pressure you into writing a letter to settle the matter.
In serious cases, passengers may seek to preserve CCTV footage, which serves as important evidence during the investigation.
Similarly, children, women and senior citizens have the right to special assistance, priority and sensitive treatment at the airport.
