Gujarat: Ahmedabad, December 24 The Ahmedabad Crime Branch and the Special Operations Group (SOG) have conducted a number of coordinated, high-intensity raids over the last week in a major onslaught against the city’s drug network, filing 21 criminal cases and seizing drugs worth more than Rs 1 crore.
According to police, the coordinated operation demonstrates a zero-tolerance stance against drug use and trafficking, with law enforcement teams focusing on all tiers of the illicit supply chain, from street vendors to those funding the activity.
Police said that throughout the seven-day drive, 25 suspects were taken into custody, including important drug dealers. During operations carried out in various parts of the city, significant amounts of narcotics, including ganja, charas, and mephedrone (MD), were found and confiscated as muddamal.
Investigators are now focusing especially on following narco-finance networks connected to the confiscated consignments, which is a strategic change.
According to officials, attempts are being made to find money laundering routes, track down money trails, and freeze assets obtained from the drug activity.
Additionally, police no longer restrict their actions to big commercial shipments.
According to authorities, even little amounts of drugs are being targeted in an effort to destroy local distribution centers that support addiction and ensnare at-the-local level vulnerable kids.
The Crime Branch emphasized a humanitarian approach for those who are addicted while reaffirming tough action against drug dealers. According to authorities, legal regulations will help those who are legitimately addicted and want to get de-addiction therapy.
Addicts who are charged for offenses involving minor amounts or consumption under Section 27 may be exempt from prosecution under Section 64A of the NDPS Act if they willingly seek medical treatment at a government-approved de-addiction facility.
“We want to eradicate drugs from Ahmedabad. A top Crime Branch officer urged families and people to come forward and choose recovery, saying, “We are striking at the financial roots of drug networks while offering a second chance to those who want to break free from addiction.”
With the promise of absolute anonymity and prompt action, police have urged the public to assist law enforcement and submit any information pertaining to drug-related activity.
