Sukamuljo, 30, posted personal photos on social media on Dec. 24, marking a rare update from the former world No. 1 doubles player. The images show him vacationing with his family, prompting discussion among fans, including comments noting changes in his appearance since his playing days, while his wife appeared in good form following the birth of their child.

Some social media users responded with lighthearted remarks about Sukamuljo’s post-retirement lifestyle and his marriage, according to Theirs. Others focused on his achievements and expressed admiration for his life after professional sport.

Sukamuljo was regarded by Indonesian media as one of the country’s most gifted badminton players in decades, known for his exceptional speed, reflexes and technical flair. While his playing style emphasized creativity and agility, observers have noted that limitations in backcourt attacking power affected his ability to progress further at the highest level.

Sukamuljo reached the top of the BWF world rankings in men’s doubles and was considered among the leading players of his generation. His major titles include back-to-back All England Open championships in 2017 and 2018, the BWF World Superseries Finals in 2017, and gold at the 2018 Asian Games. He also contributed to Indonesia’s victories at the 2015 SEA Games, the Asian Team Championships in 2018 and 2020, and the 2020 Thomas Cup.

Partnering with Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Sukamuljo formed the highly successful men’s doubles pair known as the “Minions,” a nickname reflecting their relatively small stature and fast, explosive playing style. Together, they dominated the international circuit, holding the world No. 1 ranking for a total of 234 weeks, including a record 214 consecutive weeks.

Despite their sustained dominance, the pair did not secure a men’s doubles title at the Olympic Games or World Championships, with their most significant individual gold medal coming at the 2018 Asian Games.

Sukamuljo’s wife, Valencia Tanoesoedibjo, is the daughter of Indonesian media tycoon Hary Tanoesoedibjo, chairman of PT MNC Asia Holding Tbk. The group’s subsidiaries include Media Nusantara Citra, one of Southeast Asia’s largest integrated media companies. Forbes estimates Hary Tanoesoedibjo’s net worth at US$1 billion in 2025.

The couple held a high-profile wedding in March 2023, featuring four grand ceremonies, including one at a luxurious castle in France, complete with private jets for guests and fireworks costing tens of thousands of U.S. dollars. They welcomed their first daughter about a year later.

Since stepping away from competitive badminton, Sukamuljo has maintained a low public profile. He is often cited online as an example of an athlete who has transitioned from an elite sporting career to a stable family life, combining personal fulfillment with long-term financial security.
