AI Report: According to a report by Global Payments Inc., which offers payment processing technology and services, artificial intelligence is beginning to change the commerce industry. The shift is from recommendations and customer service to AI agents that can autonomously complete purchases on behalf of customers and businesses.

With this, AI is no longer only a research tool but rather actively participates in transactions.

It said “In commerce, the transformation is just beginning……Consumers have already discovered that AI can be a powerful researcher, collator and collaborator when it comes to searching for items and services” .

According to the paper, home management is another new area where AI is being used. According to the article, a busy family leader may give an AI agent instructions to make weekly meal plans, recommend recipes, and make a shopping list based on prior purchases, brand preferences, and spending limitations.

The AI may place delivery orders immediately without needing repeated permissions or payment inputs thanks to agentic commerce connected to payments.

According to the paper, AI agents may manage supplies, renew or cancel software licenses, supervise maintenance requirements, and handle supplier and gig worker payments on behalf of owners.

Tokenized purchases may be used to complete these transactions, increasing security and visibility.

Businesses first used AI mostly for customer service, using natural language tools to respond to questions and provide tailored suggestions, which decreased expenses and increased engagement. AI has also been used to improve back-office functions like inventory control and demand forecasting.

However, the use of AI as a consumer agent has started to gain pace in recent months.

Businesses already have a high level of knowledge of agentic commerce, according to the study in the research, with 15% saying they are extremely acquainted with the idea and 72% saying they are somewhat familiar. In the next stage, AI agents will make transactions without further authorization or repetitive payment information submission.

According to the report, AI agents can now be instructed to plan a seven-day vacation, look up hotels and airfare within a set budget, make reservations, deposit money, schedule spa services, and even buy clothes based on a user’s style, brand preferences, and most recent wardrobe additions.

AI is altering not just what occurs during a transaction but also who does it and when, according to the paper. It is anticipated that agentic commerce would result in enhanced customer experience, better service, and more robust business touchpoints with increased adoption, testing, and frequent changes. But as technology advances, hazards and difficulties still exist.
