The youngster was stuck in a moving footbridge that connected the parking lot to the ski slope at the Asarigawa Onsen Ski Resort in Otaru on Sunday morning (local time). According to Xinhua, which quotes Kyodo News Agency, his mother reported the event to emergency personnel.

According to local police and firemen, the youngster, a Sapporo resident, was saved but was unconscious when he was brought to the hospital, where his death was subsequently verified.

Resort authorities told Kyodo News that when the boy was stuck, the walkway’s emergency stop feature didn’t work on its own, so his mother had to hit the stop button.

According to authorities, the emergency feature, which is intended to immediately stop the traveler if a foreign item is detected, had operated as intended during a routine check earlier that day.

The precise cause of the catastrophe and the effectiveness of the site’s safety precautions are being investigated by police and other authorities.
