Swiggy and Zomato Strike: Amidst the New Year celebrations, food delivery companies Swiggy and Zomato have announced important news to their delivery partners. Recently, the labor union announced a strike on December 31 due to low wages and lack of facilities. To counter this situation and meet the high demand for orders on New Year’s Day, companies have announced substantial incentives. The initiative aims to reduce the angst of delivery partners and ensure uninterrupted service on the last day of the year.

Zomato has introduced a special payment plan for its delivery partners during peak hours from 6 PM to 12 PM. During this period the company will deliver 120 to 150 per order, which has boosted employee morale. Moreover, the platform has also generated a promising earning potential of up to 3,000 per day, depending on order availability.

To provide relief to delivery partners, companies have waived all penalty charges for order cancellation or rejection. This will completely eliminate the fear of financial loss to the partners during irregular order flow, allowing them to work without any stress. This step has been taken to better coordinate and encourage partners.

The Delivery Workers Union had called a strike on December 25 and 31 to demand social security, better working conditions and salary hike. The token strike on December 25 affected services in many sectors and companies have taken this decision on this basis. While unions are firm in their demand for fundamental changes, increased incentives could encourage many employees to return to work.

Not only food delivery, but also fast-commerce companies like Zepto have increased incentives in response to increased demand towards the end of the year. Considering the possibility of strike, these companies are spending extra budget to deliver goods on time to customers. In this competitive environment, all platforms are striving to ensure that their operations are not disrupted in the new year.
