New Delhi: A Hindu businessman narrowly escaped death after he was beaten, stabbed and set on fire by a mob in Bangladesh, marking the fourth reported attack on members of the minority community in just two weeks. The victim is identified as a 40-year-old Khokan Chandra who suffered serious burn injuries and is currently battling for life in the hospital.

The incident took place on New Year’s Eve in the Keurbhanga Bazar area. Khokan runs a pharmacy and was returning home around 9 pm after closing his shop. As he reached the Tiloi area, he was allegedly stopped by a group of miscreants who attacked him without warning.

According to local accounts, the attackers beat him severely before stabbing him multiple times with sharp weapons. They then reportedly poured petrol over his body and set him on fire. In a desperate bid to save himself, Khokan jumped into a nearby pond, managing to douse the flames.
