Bullet Train: The first bullet train project in the country, of course, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is again in the news. In fact, the live launch date for this ambitious project has come out even as the project has been hit by a stop-work notice.
The announcement of the public offering has once again brought the project into the limelight. In fact, the work of this project has been stopped in the state. The ‘H East’ division of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has issued a stop-work notice to the bullet train project, accusing it of non-compliance with pollution regulations.
Therefore, there is a possibility that some works of the project will be affected temporarily. However, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced the launch date of India’s first bullet train, and information is coming out that the first phase of the bullet train will come into service on August 15, 2027.
With this bullet train, the distance from Mumbai to Ahmedabad can be covered in just 2 hours and 7 minutes, and the train will be available every 30 minutes. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is using the latest Japanese Shinkansen high-speed train technology.
Under this project, a subway tunnel of about 21 km length is being constructed between BKC and Shilphata. Out of this, 5 km tunnel is being constructed between Shilphata to Ghansoli using New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) technique, while the remaining 16 km tunnel is being constructed using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
Interestingly, this tunnel also includes a 7 km long section under Thane Bay. The first phase of the bullet train will be launched between Surat and Bilimora.
Then Vapi to Surat and further Vapi to Ahmedabad routes will start in phases. After completion of all phases, the bullet train will run from Thane to Ahmedabad and eventually from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
How many stations will be developed
There will be total 12 stations on this route. The Mumbai Bullet Train station at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) will be the only underground station on the entire route. The station, which will be built at a depth of about 32.5 meters, will have three floors, six platforms and state-of-the-art passenger facilities.
Commuters will benefit greatly as there is direct connectivity to metro and road transport. It is believed that this bullet train will give a big boost to trade, investment and tourism between Mumbai-Ahmedabad.
