The beginning of the week was troublesome for metro passengers in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Due to a mechanical fault in the metro this morning, the metro service from Dakshineswar to Tollygunge was disrupted. Thousands of passengers had to face problems due to the sudden stoppage of service. Especially the office going people, students and daily commuters were seen quite worried.
According to the information, a technical fault occurred in a rake of the metro during the morning rush hour, after which the metro service had to be partially stopped due to security reasons. At many stations the metro remained standing for long periods, while at some stations the metro services were completely stopped. Due to this, the crowd of passengers on the platform increased and an atmosphere of chaos was created.
After the metro service was disrupted, passengers had to resort to alternative means like buses, autos and taxis. This created a situation of crowd and jam on the roads. Many passengers said that they faced considerable delay in reaching office and school. Some people were seen traveling on foot out of compulsion.
Metro officials said that efforts were made to fix the mechanical fault as soon as possible. Technical team was sent to the spot and after some time the service was gradually restored. The administration apologized for the inconvenience caused to the passengers and asked to pay special attention to maintenance to avoid such incidents in future.
However, despite the resumption of service, there was resentment among the passengers. People say that frequent technical glitches in an essential service like Metro is a matter of concern. Passengers have demanded that the metro administration should conduct technical checks and improvements in time, so that such problems do not arise in future.
