A mum who noticed her daughter struggling to walk and dragging her leg has opened up about her daughter being left paralysed after life-saving surgery. Kate Hill, and her husband Pete knew something wasn't right with their six-year-old daughterSofia as she found it hard to walk properly and would fall over and stumble frequently.

Assuming she had injured her leg, hip or knee, they took her to the hospitalto get checked out in June 2024, only to be told Sofia had a rare genetic disordercalled spinal arteriovenous malformation (AVM) – a tangle of abnormal blood vessels in or around the spinal cord where arteries connect directly to veins – and advised Kate and Pete to rush her to hospital immediately.
