Uttar Pradesh Voter List Update: 2.90 crore names deleted, but you still have a chance

This news may be shocking for lakhs of people in Uttar Pradesh. During the special intensive revision of the voter list, 2.90 crore names have been removed from the voter list in the entire state. The first shock may seem big, but the matter of relief is that there is full opportunity to get the removed names included again. UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa clarified that this is only a draft list and the final list will be released in March. Meanwhile, those whose names have been removed can get them included again in time.

Why were so many names removed?

On October 27, 2025, there were 15.44 crore voters in UP, which has now reduced to 12.55 crore. CEO Rinwa gave five big reasons:

  1. Deceased – those who have died
  2. Duplicate – Those whose names were registered at more than one assembly or booth
  3. Shifted – People who no longer live at the address
  4. Absent/Missing – About 80 lakh people who were not found by the BLO even after 45 days of investigation.
  5. Non-returners – Those who took the form but did not submit it

The Election Commission claims that by removing these entries the list is being made error-free and transparent.
