Jaipur. Sarfaraz Khan scored the fastest half-century for India in List A cricket against Punjab in the seventh round of Vijay Hazare Trophy. Chasing the target of 217 at Jaipuria Vidyalaya ground in Jaipur, Musheer Khan and Angkrish Raghuvanshi gave a strong start to Mumbai by making a partnership of 57 runs in 8.2 overs. Sarfaraz, who came to bat after his brother’s dismissal, attacked the spinners as soon as he came.
He hit three sixes and three fours in one over of Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma and then scored 19 runs in five balls against left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar. Sarfaraz completed his half-century in just 15 balls and when he was LBW by Mayank Markande, he had scored 62 runs in 20 balls with the help of seven fours and five sixes.
With this feat, Sarfaraz Khan broke the joint record of Abhijeet Kale of Maharashtra and Atit Seth of Baroda. Kale had scored a half-century in 16 balls against Baroda in 1995 while Seth had achieved this feat against Chhattisgarh in 2021. This is the fourth fastest half-century in List A cricket.
The fastest half-century is in the name of Sri Lankan Kaushalya Weeraratne who achieved this feat in the 2005-06 season. Sarfaraz is currently the leading run-scorer for Mumbai in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 303 runs in six innings at an average of 75.75 and a strike rate of 190.56. Sarfaraz last played for India in February 2024 against England and he has been in tremendous form in recent times.
