Ashes 5th Test Result: The Australian team won the Ashes series 4-1 against England on the last day at the Sydney Cricket Ground. With this victory, Australia also got 12 important points of the World Test Championship.
At the beginning of the fifth day, Australia bowled out England for 342 runs in the second innings. After this, chasing the target of 160 runs, the host team won the match by five wickets.
England did not allow this match to become special for Usman Khawaja. He was dismissed by Josh Tong for just six runs. Just a few days ago, Australian batsman Usman Khawaja had announced his retirement from international cricket.
In the last moments of the match, Alex Carey (16 runs not out) and Cameron Green (22 runs not out) led the team to victory. With this victory, Australia has become stronger at the top position in the points table of the World Test Championship 2025-27.
Thanks to young all-rounder Jacob Bethel’s maiden Test century, England managed to take the fifth and final Test of the Ashes series to the fifth day. In this match played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), England’s second innings was reduced to 342 runs and Australia got the target of 160 runs to win, which the Kangaroo team achieved by losing 5 wickets in 31.2 overs.
Marnus Labuschagne scored the maximum 37 runs for Australia in the second innings. Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 22 and Alex Carey scored 16 runs. Carey won the Sydney Test for Australia in spectacular fashion by hitting fours in 31.2 overs.
In the first session of the fifth day, 22-year-old Barbados-born Jacob Bethel showed great composure and maturity when he scored 154 runs in the sixth Test of his career. His innings included 15 fours. Apart from them, Harry Brook scored 42 runs and Jamie Smith scored 26 runs. All-rounders Beau Webster and Mitchell Starc proved to be heroes for Australia. Both of them took three wickets each in the second innings, while Boland got two wickets and Neser got one wicket.
Australia needed 160 runs to win on the final day of the last Test of the Ashes series. The innings was started by Travis Head and Jack Weatherald. Travis Head scored 29 and Jack Weatherald scored 34 runs. Marnus Labuschagne added 37 runs. Captain Steve Smith was out after scoring 12 runs. Usman Khawaja returned to the pavilion after scoring six runs in seven balls. In the end, Cameron Green (22*) and Alex Carey (16*) remained unbeaten.
England won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 384 runs in the first innings. Joe Root played a brilliant inning of 160 runs, while Harry Brook added 84 runs. In reply, Australia’s first innings rested on centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. Smith scored 138 runs, which was his 37th century in his Test career and 13th in the Ashes. With this he reached sixth place in the all-time list of Test centuries. Apart from this, Beau Webster played an unbeaten inning of 71 runs. Thanks to these innings, Australia scored 567 runs and took a lead of 183 runs over England.
The Australian team won the five-match Ashes series 4–1. Australia won by 8 wickets in the first test played in Perth. In the second test played at Gabba in Brisbane, the host team also won by 8 wickets.
The third Test, played at the Adelaide Oval, was won by Australia by 82 runs. England won by 4 wickets in the fourth test (Boxing Day). In the end, by winning the Sydney Test, the Kangaroo team won the series 4-1.
