School Holidays: In view of the severe cold in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, the district administration has taken a big decision. After the cold wave warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), instructions have been given to keep all the schools in Ranchi district closed till January 10. This order has been issued giving priority to the health and safety of the students.


All schools closed from KG to class 12


According to the order issued by the district administration, all types of schools running under Ranchi district will come under the purview of this decision. This includes government, non-government, aided, unaided, minority institutions and all private schools. All classes from KG to class 12 will remain postponed till January 10. Earlier, schools were instructed to remain closed till January 8, which has now been extended.


Yellow alert issued for 13 districts


IMD has issued ‘yellow alert’ of cold wave for 13 districts of Jharkhand including Ranchi. The districts where the impact of cold is expected to be more include Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and West Singhbhum. The Meteorological Department has advised people to take special precautions in the morning and night.


North-westerly winds are responsible for the cold


Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of Ranchi Meteorological Center, said that the cold has increased in Jharkhand due to north-westerly winds at the lower troposphere level. He said that there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature for the next two days. After this, the temperature is likely to increase by about three degrees Celsius during the next three days.


Highest cold in Hazaribagh


The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in Hazaribagh, where the mercury reached 2.9 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, minimum temperature was recorded at 3.2 degree Celsius in Khunti, 3.4 degree Celsius in Daltonganj and 3.6 degree Celsius in Lohardaga. The minimum temperature in Ranchi was 8 degrees Celsius, while in Bokaro and Chaibasa it was recorded at 6.4 and 6.5 degrees Celsius respectively.


Cold wave warning issued in nine districts


The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave warning for the next 24 hours for Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Hazaribagh, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Bokaro and Gumla districts. The administration has appealed to the people to adopt measures to protect themselves from cold and take special care of children and the elderly.
