Hajar Abdelkader vs Lorena Schedel: Viral Match and Itf Nairobi Explained

The tennis match at the ITF W35 in Nairobi went viral following an extremely poor performance by Egyptian player Hajar Abdelkader. The tennis world is demanding the answers regarding how such a “comedy show” could occur, as Germany’s Lorena Schaedel dominated the court.

During the disastrous 37-minute match, Abdelkader won only three points, all of which were due to her opponent’s errors.

The match was so unprofessional that at several moments, both Schaedel and the umpire had to guide her through the rules of the game and tell her where to stand.

The 37-minute disaster is being called ‘the worst match ever’

Abdelkader lost the match 6-0, 6-0, recording 20 double faults and a first-serve percentage of just 8.3 %. The performance has enraged officials, who are now questioning how she received a wildcard entry.

Veteran tournament director Randy Walker criticized the match on social media, stating that the situation “doesn’t even need to be investigated” as it is “a straight-up disrespect to the integrity of the sport.” He insisted that the “promoter needs to be replaced immediately” for allowing such an entry.

While the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has not yet released an official statement, the video of the match has surpassed one million views and ignited a global sensation over the “wildcard” system.
