The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed it will soon schedule the hearing for the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM)’s appeal regarding the sanctions of seven naturalized players for document falsification.
Vanessa Tracey, a spokesperson for CAS, told StarSport that the involved parties are currently exchanging information and finalizing their written submissions, but arbitration panel has yet to be established for this case.
Tracey noted that due to the significant media attention the case has received, CAS will issue a brief announcement on its official website once the hearing date is confirmed, along with necessary information to answer questions.

The scandal originated in September 2025 when FIFA determined that FAM used forged documents to naturalize seven players — Joao Figueiredo, Rodrigo Holgado, Gabriel Palmero, Imanol Machuca, Facundo Garces, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel.
These players were featured in Malaysia’s two wins in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, against Vietnam and Nepal.
The violation resulted in a 350,000 Swiss franc fine for FAM, while the involved players received a 12-month ban from football and individual fines.
FIFA has already declared several of Malaysia’s friendly matches as 0-3 forfeits due to the inclusion of these ineligible players.
The legal battle follows an appeal filed by FAM on Dec. 8, challenging the disciplinary ruling from FIFA. That decision, detailed in a comprehensive 63-page report published in November, upheld the sanctions against FAM and the seven naturalized players involved. FIFA concluded that the use of forged documents violated fundamental principles of football.
As the regional community awaits the court’s schedule, the unresolved case continues to cast a shadow on Malaysian football and has become the focus of attention in Southeast Asia.
