News India Live, Digital Desk: As soon as we hear the name of the court, a picture emerges in our mind of a place where there is a lot of seriousness and discipline. Especially when it comes to the country’s biggest court i.e. the Supreme Court, the etiquette there becomes even more strict. “My Lord”, “Your Honor” or “Your Lordship”—these are the big words lawyers and litigants use to refer to judges. But recently, something happened in the Supreme Court which surprised everyone and also taught a beautiful lesson. What happened when the limits of decorum were broken? Actually, during the hearing, a woman, while presenting her views, bypassed the old tradition of the court. Out of emotion, or perhaps out of habit of speaking, he addressed the judges as “You Guys” instead of “My Lord.” As soon as these words echoed in the court room, the lawyers and people present there seemed to be left breathless. Everyone felt that the judge would now express his displeasure. Justice Vikram Nath’s ‘big heart’: Generally, judges take a strict stance on court insult or indiscipline, but here the scene was completely different. Justice Vikram Nath, present on the bench, showed extreme sensitivity instead of expressing displeasure over this. He understood that she was not aware of the intricacies and heavy words of the Women’s Law. She had brought her pain like a common citizen. Justice Nath showed great generosity and continued the hearing calmly instead of turning the matter into a joke or scolding. His spontaneity not only reduced the stress of that woman, but also gave the message that the temple of justice does not run on words but on the right feelings. The new face of the court: Often the general public has a perception about the judges of the Supreme Court that they are very distant and strict. But this one incident showed that the judges sitting on the bench are also human beings and they understand the situations very closely. The purpose of the law is not just to punish or interrupt, but also to give an opportunity to a common man to express his views freely. Today, on social media, people are praising the ‘generosity’ of Justice Vikram Nath. Ultimately, the respect for the law resides not only in its principles but also in the humanity of its judges.
